The Joy of Everyday Objects was a series of workshops I did with adolescent girls living in Oldham. I installed their work and designed a zine called Girljoy which would be distributed at the Khushi Festival.

What brings you joy?

Is it an object, a person, or an experience? This was the big question I asked young girls at the Yuvanis Foundation this summer. Through weekly sessions focused on this concept, we figured out the answer, together. They brought in their bags of joy, filled with seashells, jewellery, plushies and other dreamy and inspiring things that brought a smile to their face.

This zine is a culmination of their works - sketches, stories, and artworks which express their joy in all forms.

I am so grateful I got the opportunity to work with my community as a woman from a South-Asian background - I believe coming together as a community to share in our happiness is of the utmost importance.

I hope you enjoy the love, creativity, and passion that went into each of these works - and don’t forget to spread the joy!
